used to be called Tillandsia ampla
Large for a tillandsia, our plant is 1.5 meters in height when flowering and 90 cm. in diameter. Flowers have appeared continuously over a period of nine months.
Has been reported growing in a volcanic crater near Quito, Ecuador, at about 3,000 meters above sea level. (Vern Magnuson, "Beautiful Ecuador-A Plant Collecting Diary" Journal of the Bromeliad Society, 1979 page 118).
