Our plant was collected in Oaxaca, Mexico. The original populations discovered were growing as epiphytes near Carboneras (Hildago) in Mexico, at 2000 meters altitude.
Some botanists suspect this plant is a natural hybrid of Tillandsia erubescens and either Tillandsia violacea (a view attributed to Renate Ehlers) or Tillandsia prodigiosa. Petals can be green or violet.
