General notes

Widespread from southern  USA to northern Argentina and Chile.

In Curacao, leaf decoction is often taken as an emmenagogue, a remedy for leukorrhea andfor gallbladder complaints.
In Uruguay it is called "clavel del aire" and the aerial parts are used as an antispasmodic and for eye infections.
In Ecuador edible shoots are eaten, and it is used in the treatment of gallbladder afflicitions, menstrual irregularities (emmenagogue?), coughs, fever, headache , and chest pain.
In Peru it is called "qaqa sunkha"
In Argentina, one's hemorrhoids can be quickly cured by applying twice daily, finely mashed leaves of T. recurvata, blended with butter.
Widely distributed through middle america, it is called variously: agave de palo, ball moss, barba di kadoesji, curujey, gallitos, heno, maru di palu, nidos de gungulen, old man's beard, pachtle, paixtli, three-leafed wild pine, tillandsia encorvada, tina. (Rios A. & Khan, 1998)
