The larger of the two forms we have.
From Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Costa Rica where it grows epiphytically in mountain forests from 1,150 to 2,600 meters. (Padilla, 1973). We have two forms - a smaller which grows epiphytically and flowers in the shadehouse, and a larger form that prefers pot culture and flowers better with some warmth.
Paul Isley reported the plant is monocarpic (Isley, 1987 page 201). We have found there are two quite distinct forms of T. guatemalensis: a small form which fruits and offsets freely, and a much larger form which we think comes from Guatemala that is normally monocarpic.
