Tillandsia cyanea var. tricolor

General notes

Comes from Ecuador, growing epiphytically in direct sun, high temperatures and high humidity. We have found the plant to be marginal in an unheated glasshouse, it much prefers minimum night temperatures of 10C or more. Our plants are grown in the growing-on house, and do not receive high light—this results in the pale colored floral bracts. In high light and humidity they attain a much more striking pink coloration.

 Normally T. cyanea has a pure blue flower, and T. cyanea variety tricolor has the white centres as shown above.
