This is the variety that has been in our sales catalog, and originates in Guatemala. It flowered for us in May 2000.
A form from Honduras.
There are many forms, growing from Southern Mexico through central America. Usually epiphytic in forests at 900 to 2100 meters.
The plant is noted for the brilliant red coloration of the leaves when it comes into flower, remaining colorful for months. The warmer and brighter the growing conditions, provided the humidity is kept up, the more colorful the plant becomes.
