This plant we originally purchased as "Tillandsia balbisiana," but the rosette was too open for that species.
From Chiapas in Mexico. The plant is very close to T. polystachia, and there have been suggestions it is a hybrid of T. polystachia (Kiff, 1991). Our plant is self fertile, which is not usual for hybrids. See the note by Renate Ehlers in the BSI Journal March-April 1993, page74.
